Capoeira is self defense, hidden in dance created by African people in Brazil. Children learn to master capoeira basic moves, kicks and escapes, and how to play the free style game in the roda, capoeira circle. Children also learn music. We provide capoeira instruments for practice and learn songs in Portuguese. Our lessons are based on our core values of FDR: Focus, Discipline & Respect.
Girls and boys love capoeira. Students build strength, coordination, reflexes, flexibility, balance while developing social and emotional skills, teamwork, and building a supportive and inclusive community. To reinforce lessons and honor hard work and achievements, we award children with colored capoeira cords (capoeira’s version of karate belts).
