LEGO WeDo (Beginners class)
This fun and exciting class is ideal for beginners. Students will be building and programming robots using LEGO® WeDo™ kits. Working in groups using LEGO blocks, gears, motors and sensors, students will learn mechanical design, construction, programming and teamwork skills while sharing a robotics kit and computer. Students will use a laptop to teach their robots to move, react, and make sounds. Students follow step-by-step on-screen instructions to build their robots, and then build a suggested program to get their robots working.
LEGO Mindstorms (Advanced class)
Explore the world of robotics using LEGO®’s NXT line. Students will learn construction and programming with the NXT intelligent brick using servo style motors, touch, light and ultrasonic sensors. Students will build a wide variety of robots and program them to perform tasks and react to their environment. Students learn how to program the bots by using software in which they place icons in sequence to create the instructions that they desire. It’s easy to learn, and introduces the concept of programming with objects (icons) and structures such as loops and conditional statements. Students work in groups, sharing an NXT robotics kit and computer. This class is good preparation for students interested in robotics competitions such as the FIRST LEGO League.
